The Students Nobody Talks About

They Paid a School. They Still Cannot Finish a Dent.

The number one thing training-mill graduates cannot do is finish a dent. Some cannot even place their tool on the dent correctly. They paid real tuition, got a certificate, and came out without the base the whole craft stands on. That is not a beginner problem. That is a training problem.

It is not their fault. Where you go to become a PDR tech is the most important decision in this trade, and many schools are not run by people who ever built a real business from scratch. They never had to design their own website, understand their client avatars, or feel what the first push on a paying customer's car feels like. So they teach a routine instead of a foundation.

Learning PDR is about foundation and fundamentals, period. People look for giant steps, some secret that changes everything, when the answer was in front of them the whole time. It is the small details that make the biggest difference. Dent Trainer exists to build those details in the right order, whether you want to learn PDR online from zero or repair the damage a school left behind.

What the Mills Skip

The Small Details That Make the Biggest Difference.

This is the base layer of the craft. Even trainers overlook some of it. Every one of these is built step by step inside Dent Trainer, starting with Ground Zero.

01

Reading a Reflection Is the Base

Even trainers overlook it. The reflection is the map for the entire repair, and until you read it correctly, every push is a guess. Dent Trainer starts here because everything else stands on it.

02

Moving the Light Automatically

The light tells you where the metal is, but only if positioning it becomes automatic. This is drilled until you stop thinking about it, the same way you stopped thinking about the pedals when you learned to drive.

03

The Correct Tool, the Correct Tip

Some school graduates cannot even place their tool correctly on the dent. Choosing the tool, switching the tips correctly, and knowing why: that is a fundamental, not an advanced topic.

04

When to Tap Down

Crowns and highs decide whether a dent finishes clean or chases you around the panel. Knowing when to stop pushing and start tapping is the judgment call the mills never build.

05

Identifying Trapped Pressure

The dent that will not move is usually a dent holding pressure you have not found. Learning to identify it turns the most frustrating moment in PDR into a routine read.

Why Dent Trainer Exists

Built in 2013 for the Student Learning Alone.

Not every student can travel to California for personal training. Myke created Dent Trainer in 2013 for exactly that student, because he understands the struggle and the anxiety of learning this trade: the dent that will not move, the doubt at week three, the feeling that everyone else got it and you did not.

People felt alone and gave up. That is not going to happen anymore. When you get stuck, you post your struggle on the Dent Trainer community page. Myke gets notified, and he steps in when he can. A video library cannot do that. A trainer can.

SINCE 2013

Thousands of techs trained online, in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

The Part No Video Library Teaches

Pricing and the Business, From Someone Who Built One.

A tech who can finish a dent but cannot price one is still not in business. Dent Trainer teaches the layer the mills never touch: how to price your work, who your client avatars actually are, how to handle the first encounter pushing a dent for a real customer, and how to build your brand on social media.

It comes from lived experience, not theory. Myke has been in PDR since 1991 and built Dent Time from scratch in 2001 with his wife Mary: the website, the reputation, the client base, all of it. The goal inside Dent Trainer is blunt: learn to run your company like a business instead of a job.

What Online Students Ask Next.

Practice with purpose. Every Dent Trainer lesson tells you exactly what to drill next.

How long does it take to learn PDR?

The honest curve is six to twelve months of steady practice to consistency, whatever course you take. Anyone promising mastery in a week is selling tuition, and we wrote whether you can really learn PDR in 14 days to be true about it. The variable you control is whether every practice hour builds a correct habit or reinforces a wrong one.

What should I practice on at home?

Hoods and doors from a salvage yard. They cost little and give you honest metal with real access problems. Pair them with a light source and the Dent Trainer fundamentals and every session has a purpose instead of being random pushing.

Do I need expensive tools to start?

No, and be suspicious of anyone who says otherwise before teaching you to read a reflection. Read the tools of the trade first. Dent Trainer members also get discounts on the major PDR tool brands, so you buy once, correctly.

Can I learn PDR while keeping my current job?

That is exactly how most Dent Trainer students do it. The library is there at night and on weekends, the community answers when you get stuck, and you transition when the skill is real instead of betting your income on week one. The full career path is laid out in how to become a PDR technician.

Online PDR Training, Real Answers

What You Need to Know Before You Start.

Can you really learn PDR online?
Yes, if the training is built on fundamentals and you bring patience. Online training builds the knowledge layer correctly: reading the reflection, choosing the tool, when to tap down, how to identify trapped pressure. The hands-on hours still have to happen on real panels, and Dent Trainer is structured so you always know exactly what to practice next.
I went to a PDR school and still cannot finish a dent. Can this fix that?
This is the exact student Dent Trainer was built for. The pattern is almost always the same: the school skipped the base. Reading a reflection, moving the light automatically, correct tool tip placement, tap-down timing. Dent Trainer rebuilds those fundamentals in order, and you can post your struggle in the community and get eyes on it instead of guessing alone.
How much does online PDR training cost?
At Dent Trainer, the Ground Zero foundation course is $219 with lifetime access. Full library subscriptions run $119 for 3 months, $197 for 6 months, or $379 for a year, with more than 500 videos plus PDR tool discounts. Individual technique courses start around $27. Every price is published, the same way our in-person tuition is.
What is the difference between Ground Zero and the subscription?
Ground Zero is the foundation course for someone learning from scratch, built as one structured path with lifetime access. The Gold subscription opens the entire library: 150+ courses, advanced technique breakdowns, tool tutorials, and the business training. Serious students usually start with Ground Zero and add the subscription once the fundamentals hold.
What happens when I get stuck on a dent?
You post it on the Dent Trainer community page. Myke gets notified and steps in when he can. That support loop is the difference between a video library and training, because the moment most techs quit is the moment nobody answered.
Is there free PDR training online?
Free videos on YouTube show you what PDR looks like, and that is where they stop. Nobody sees your light, your tool tip, or your habits, so mistakes go uncorrected and compound into exactly the problems the training mills produce. The structured path costs less than one botched practice panel: Ground Zero is $219 once, with lifetime access and a community where your work actually gets looked at.
Does Dent Trainer teach pricing and the business side?
Yes, and it is one of the strongest parts of the platform. Most training never touches what happens after the dent: pricing a job, understanding your client avatars, building your brand on social media, and running your company like a business instead of a job. Myke built Dent Time from scratch starting in 2001, and that experience is in the curriculum.
Is online training enough, or do I need in-person training?
They solve different problems. Online builds the knowledge and keeps you progressing every week for the price of a tank of gas. In-person puts an instructor at your panel watching your hands, which is the fastest way to correct habits. Many students do both: Dent Trainer first, then the 2-week or 4-week course in Escondido once they are serious.
What are the live online classes with Myke?
A coming four-week program held live on video calls, not recordings. Five students maximum, one live group session each week with Myke, homework on your own practice panels between sessions, and Myke reviewing your actual repairs on screen. It is not open yet. The waitlist on this page is how you hear first, by text, when enrollment opens, and joining it costs nothing.
