A high-mileage car already carrying honest wear. Bringing one panel to perfect next to three that are not does not read as better. It reads as odd.
Damage nobody looks at. Low on a rocker, an inside door edge, the underside of a bumper. The gain is real and invisible.
A car you are handing back or selling shortly. Premium on the panels seen first, Practical on the rest, and some dings left alone entirely.

Look across the panel at a low angle, parallel to the surface, never straight on. Use any straight edge reflected in the paint, a doorway, a roofline, a light fitting. You are looking for high spots, waves, or unevenness in the reflected line. Ask the technician to move the light further back while you keep looking across the panel. A technician confident in the work hands you the light.
